Research is integral at City University, with over 100 participating faculty members in 24 academic departments, and 45 institutes and centers. Students at all levels are encouraged to participate in research with plenty of funding available. One opportunity available for undergraduate students is through SME research and Development fund (Institute of SMEs Research and Development) where undergraduates can earn a Certificate in Materials through taking a combination of core courses and participating in research with SME-RD faculty. SME-RD was founded to develop a deeper understanding of the world of materials and their applications while integrating the social science, science and engineering.
